Delbert Gene Fisher

Delbert Fisher, age 79, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, August 4, 2010, in the Wexner Heritage Village at Columbus, Ohio following a two week illness.A son of the late Oliver and Elizabeth Dillon Fisher, Delbert was born at New Philadelphia on August 3, 1931.He was a graduate of New Philadelphia High School and entered into the United States Marine Corps on December 12, 1951, and served state-side during the Korean War. On April 12, 1952, Delbert married the former Florine DeBois and together the couple reared two children. Following forty-seven years of marriage, Florine preceded Delbert in death on August 30, 1999.For more than twenty years, Delbert served a number of firms throughout the United States in the field of telecommunications and electronics and ultimately returned to New Philadelphia upon his retirement.In his spare time, Delbert enjoyed reading and was skilled at carpentry work. He enjoyed working around his own home as well as the home’s of his children. For a number of years, Delbert has cared for his sister, Wanda Fisher of New Philadelphia and has enjoyed the companionship of his dog, Liza.In addition to his sister and canine companion, Delbert leaves behind a family that includes a son, Brad (Sandy) Fisher of Trenton, Ohio and a daughter, Paula (Dean) Gledhill of Gahanna, Ohio.Seven grandchildren, Chris, Tracy, Jeanna, Travis, Paul, Andy and Cory and seven great-grandchildren, Anna, Sam, Elizabeth, Luke, Lily, Emma and Dylan complete the family.In keeping with Delbert’s wishes cremation will be conducted through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover.
