Delbert E. Miller, 86, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday morning, August 28, 2007 in Union Hospital at Dover following a short illness.A son of the late Carl and Edith (Schlafly) Miller, Delbert was born July 16, 1921 at New Philadelphia.After graduating from New Philadelphia High School in 1939, he enlisted with the United States Army. Delbert served his country in the South Pacific during World War II.On January 24, 1948, Delbert married the love of his life, the former Dolores Bird. Together, he and Dolores raised five children, Marjorie, Terry, Dean, Thomas and Steve.Over the years, Delbert was employed as a stationary engineer with Reeves Steel at Dover and Republic Steel at Massillon. He eventually retired from Republic Steel in 1986. Delbert was a member of Jerusalem Church at New Philadelphia and he enjoyed gardening, trap shooting and traveling with Dolores.He is survived by his loving wife, Dolores Miller; children, Marjorie (John) Adams of Helena, Montana, Terry Miller of West Lafayette, Dean (Susan) Miller of Navarre and Steve (Deb) Miller of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Mandy, Chet, Scott, Matt, Lee and Shawn and 6 great grandchildren.Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Thomas and a brother, Paul.Family and friends may call on Thursday, August 30, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral Service celebrating Delbert’s life will be held on Friday, August 31, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Rev. Terry Downin officiating. Burial will follow in Jerusalem Church Cemetery.
