Dean R. Herron

Dean R. Herron, 95, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully at The Inn at Belden Village on August 1, 2023 following a short period of declining health.

Born in Uhrichsville, Ohio on January 8, 1928, he was the son of the late Mark Glenwood and Hazel D. (Morrow) Herron.

After graduating from Midvale High School, Dean was a professional welder with the former Warner & Swasey Company for 39 years prior to retirement.

On April 14, 1947, Dean married his late wife, the former Loretta Mae Demattio. They celebrated 51 years of marriage prior to her passing on August 12, 1998.

Dean was fondly known as papa, g-pa, great-papa, and great-grandpa. He enjoyed traveling with family.

Dean’s family includes his children, Terry (Michael) Fesenmyer of Delaware, O., Deana (Dr. Joseph) Vrabel of Canton, O., and Sue (fiancé, Jim Demuth) Spittle of Sherrodsville, O.; grandchildren, Timothy (Betsey) Fesenmyer, Thomas (Pam) Fesenmyer and Tracy Fesenmyer; Dustin (Allison) Vrabel, Darcy (Elvis) Drevon, and Devin (Bridget) Vrabel, Katelyn Spittle, Dr. Nicholas (Madalyn) Spittle, and Matthew Dean Spittle; and great-grandchildren; Cate Elizabeth Fesenmyer, Grant Russell Fesenmyer, Nash Joseph Vrabel, Ainsley Elizabeth Vrabel, Henry Herron Vrabel, Josephine Ella Drevon, Wyatt Dean Drevon, Warren Thomas Drevon, Finley Grace Vrabel, Thomas Edward Vrabel, Dean Matthew Spittle, and Francis “Frankie” Spittle.  

In addition to his parents and wife, Dean was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Herron; and sister, Helen Beahm.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Saturday, August 5, 2023 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church on Saturday beginning at 12 Noon. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
