Dean Daniel Gerber, 81, of New Philadelphia, passed away in Union Hospital at Dover on March 24, 2018, following a period of declining health.
Born July 26, 1936, he was the son of the late Samuel Edmond and Pearl Louise (Sauers) Gerber. After completing his formal education in Dover, he married his late wife, Shirley S. (Franks) Gerber on December 7, 1958.
Dean was a member of the Church of Christ in New Philadelphia where he served numerous years as a deacon and also leading the benevolence program. Professionally, he worked as a maintenance man for Shenango, Holiday Inn, The Times Reporter, and most recently at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center in Dover.
His family includes his children, Hal (Gayle) Gerber of Illinois, Wayne (Barb) Gerber of New Philadelphia, Nevin Gerber of Navarre, and Noreen (Mark) Leavers of Midvale; his siblings, Dale (Penny) Gerber of Massillon and Bonnie Packer of Dover; and his grandchildren, Benjamin Adam Gerber, Ashley Insell, Martha (Steven) Willis, Rachel Gerber and Caitlin Gerber.
In addition to his parents and wife, Dean was preceded in passing by his brother-in-law, Don Packer.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Thursday, March 29, 2018 from 5 to 8 PM. Tim Hatfield will lead a service celebrating Dean’s life in the funeral home chapel on Friday morning March 30, 2018 beginning at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens.
