Dean Earl Milliken, age 89, went to be with the Lord and his family and friends on August 11, 2013. He passed in Country Club Retirement Center at Dover.
Born at New Philadelphia on July 27, 1924, he was the son of the late Earl and Mary (Furbay) Milliken.
Dean graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1942. Then, he entered the Army in 1943 and served for 3 years in World War II. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Dean worked for 38 years for IF Manufacturing in New Philadelphia. After retirement in 1985, he worked 15 years at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
Dean was raised in the First Church of God on Tuscarawas Avenue in New Philadelphia where he worshiped until his health failed.
Surviving are daughters, Marcia (Bob) Liggett of Bolivar and Mary Anne (Gary) Spargrove of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Brian Liggett, Brett (Jami) Liggett and Erica (Mitch) Girard; and his 5 great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Jailyn, Makenzie, Logan, and Lucas Liggett.
In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Thompson Milliken.
In keeping with Dean’s wishes, a public graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 9:45 a.m. in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. The New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445 will render military honors.
Dean’s daughters wish to thank all of the staff at Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County and the Country Club Retirement Center for his care, and the love and support shown.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Dean’s name to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
