Dean E. Sudduth, age 74, of Dover, died Saturday morning, April 1, 2006 in his home. Born at Dover July 28, 1931, Dean was the only son of the late John Noble Sudduth and Clara Anna “Babe” Jestel Sudduth. A 1949 graduate of Dover High School, Dean studied Mechanical Engineering at The Ohio State University before entering the United States Marine Corps. Between December 1951 and December 1953, Dean served his country in the Korean Conflict. Less than two months after his discharge, Dean married Mildred “Milly” Paulus, who he had courted for the previous five years. The couple met at the Tuscarawas County Fair in 1948. In January of this year, they observed their fifty-second wedding anniversary. Dean and Milly enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. The two were longtime members, and Dean the past president of, Tusco Traveliers Camping Club, and were life members of the Road Runners Chapter of the Good Sam Club. A longtime member of the First Moravian Church at Dover, Dean had served as Scoutmaster of the former Troop 99, Buckeye Council of Boy Scouts of America. Having two sons earn the rank of Eagle Scout was a point of pride for Dean.A familiar face throughout Dover and New Philadelphia, Dean retired from a thirty-five year career as a truck driver on October 6, 1985, having fostered many friendships during his career delivering freight to businesses in the area. Dean would work for nearly eight more years at Carter Plumbing, Electric & Heating before his “final retirement” in 1993. Dean cherished his family, and spending time with his wife, daughter, sons, and grandchildren brought him great joy. Whether involved in construction projects on family homes, fly fishing, attending art shows across the nation, or traveling with his wife to visit their children, the moments Dean spent with his family were among his happiest. Dean and Milly reared three children in a home they built and resided in for nearly fifty-years. Their family includes their son David Neal Sudduth and wife Dana of Houston, Texas, son Mark John Sudduth and wife Kim of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and daughter Reneé and husband Charles Bancroft of New Egypt, New Jersey.He’ll be sadly missed by five grandchildren, Ryan Sudduth, Chloé and Wyatt Sudduth and Jessica and Kayla Bancroft. A brother-in-law, Earl Paulus and his wife Dorothy of New Philadelphia as well as a sister-in-law, Wilma and her husband Robert Perry of North Canton, OH, complete the family. Friends are invited to call Monday afternoon from 5 until 8 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where the Rev. Allen L. Bergmann will lead funeral services Tuesday morning at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
