David Wayne Lauer

David Wayne Lauer, age 74, of Stone Creek, died Monday, July 25, 2011, in his home following a period of declining health.A son of the late David H. and Rachel Matthews Lauer, Dave was born at Newcomerstown on August 4, 1936.Dave was a 1955 graduate of Newcomerstown High School and married the former Carolyn Cronebaugh on August 31, 1962.For 25 years Dave was employed by the former Simon’s Tool Company at Newcomerstown prior to joining the production manufacturing line for the Gradall Company at New Philadelphia, where he ultimately retired following 10 years of service with the company. Additionally, Dave was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Jefferson Grange both of Stone Creek.Throughout his life, Dave had numerous passions and hobbies which included collecting Aladdin Lamps, Goshen Dairy memorabilia, different types of clocks and time pieces and listening to Gospel music. He was a talented wood worker who carefully crafted numerous pieces and was proud of the time he spent on his largest project, a grandfather clock.Some of Dave’s other hobbies included fishing trips with his wife, Carolyn, and spending countless hours tending to his orchard of apple and peach trees, his grape arbor and the lawn surrounding his property. In addition to those activities, he also enjoyed and was well known for his gardening skills which produced crops of hot peppers, tomatoes, and gourds. Through all of his efforts out of doors, he made wine, canned hot peppers and shared them with his family, friends and co-workers, prepared a delicious spaghetti sauce and made bird houses of dried gourds.In addition to his wife of nearly 49 years, Dave will be missed by a son, Scott (Janine) Lauer and a daughter, Christine (Dennis) McWilliams all of New Philadelphia; and a sister, Sandra (Dan) McMullen of Alliance.Memories shared with Dave will never be forgotten by his three loving grandchildren, Isaac Lauer, and Sarah and Nicholas McWilliams all of New Philadelphia. Two nieces, three nephews, their families as well as friends from the Aladdin Lamp group also survive.The family will receive friends on Friday, July 29, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and again one hour prior to services from 10:00 â?? 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2011, in Zion Lutheran Church at Stone Creek where Pastor Bill Haggis will lead a celebration of Dave’s life at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Stone Creek Cemetery. Following services, the family wishes to invite guests to join them in the church’s social hall where a meal and fellowship will be shared. The family requests memorial contributions in Dave’s name be directed to Zion Lutheran Church, PO BOX 118, Stone Creek, Ohio 43840.
