David Smitley

David Smitley, 90 of Barnhill, died Monday, April 25, 2005 at Union Hospital in Dover.A son of the late James and Bessie De long, Smitley, David was born May 9, 1914 in Dennison, O.He attended Midvale school and went as a young man to work in the coal mines. He left the mines to spend a career as a laborer in the clay industry, retiring from Larson Clay in Uhrichsville. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors and loved to tell many great stories about his adventures which were enjoyed by all of his family and friends.He is survived by two sons Walter J. Kay) Smitley of Barnhill, and Robert Smitley of Wooster, O., two daughters Norma (Jim) Bucher of Dover, O. and Joanne (Gary) Pressnell of Elyria, O. two grandsons Jr. Smitley and Deb Taylor of Dennison, and Scott (Beth) Bucher of Dover, O. and four granddaughters Becky (John) Woods of Dennison, Belinda (Tim) Mills of Barnhill, Jennifer (Todd) Brown of Mineral City, Bonnie Rufener and Greg King of New Phila., and Faith Pressnell of Elyria, O. He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren 2 step great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane Horner whom he married January 6, 1940, two brothers, John Smitley and George Smitley and two sisters, Annabelle Cox and Emma Smitley.Visitation will be Friday April 29, 2005 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory at New Philadelphia. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Terry Kidd on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel. Burial will be at Ridgecrest Cemetery in Dover.
