David R. Wood

May 27, 1949 — August 19, 2015

David R. Wood, age 66 of Uhrichsville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 while in the James Cancer Center at Columbus following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born at Colchester, England on May 27, 1949, Dave was a son of the late Ralph and Gladys (Hammond) Wood.

He attended the Christian Temple at Uhrichsville where he enjoyed being a part of the church dramas. Dave was a member of the Tuscarawas County Writers Guild and had most recently sent his first book in to begin the editing process. While in the UK, David enjoyed training service dogs for the blind and actually based his book topic on the subject.

Dave loved being with his family and enjoying cookouts where delighted those who gathered by sharing one of his famous stories. He enjoyed sharing his wide variety and eclectic taste in music with others and spending time with his boxer, TJ.

As a man of great intellect and humor, his ability to speak earned him respect both privately and publicly. For many years, he was asked to speak at Buckeye Career Center on the subject of The Medical Healthcare System in England and the pros and cons of government regulated healthcare.

He is survived by his wife, the former Twila Hostetler Ross, whom he married on April 19, 2003; his children, Stephen Wood, Stuart Wood, Stacey Wood, Kerry (Adam) Townes all of England; his step-daughters, Danielle (Devon) McCarty, Taylor Ross and McKincie (Justin) Shaffer all of New Philadelphia; six grandchildren, and his mother-in-law, Edna Hostetler also of New Philadelphia.

Completing the family are his siblings, Joan Jeffries, John (Rita) Wood, and Roger Wood all of England as well as his nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Rev. Lloyd C. Hostetler.

A celebration of life service led by Pastor Larry Hostetler will begin at 5:00 PM in the Christian Temple, 4249 Belden Drive SE, Uhrichsville, Ohio on Sunday, August 23, 2015. The family will greet guests during a reception following the service. Cremation care has been conducted by Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory.
