David Phillips

David R. Phillips, age 69, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, April 21, 2025, following a period of declining health with Lyme Disease.

A son of the late Herbert and Nellie (Kline) Phillips, David was born on March 31, 1956 at Dover, Ohio.

David was a 1974 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. He completed an associate’s degree in engineering at Kent State and a bachelor’s degree from Malone college. He went to work as an engineer with Timken Steel and worked there until his retirement.

David loved to be outside with his family boating and camping. He enjoyed many family vacations in the camper and also going on cruises with the “Cruise Buddies.” In his free-time he enjoyed restoring muscle cars, owning several over the years. He also worked on and restored many old tractors over the years. David was very fond of dogs and owned many over the years. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters.

He is survived by his wife, Kimberly (Johnson), whom he married on June 14, 1980; son, Kyle (Lindsay) Phillips of Pickerington, Ohio; granddaughters, Olivia, Eliza, and Alaina; son, Tyler (Pamela) Phillips of Columbus; brothers, Gregg (Tina) Phillips, and Tom (Eleanor) Phillips; step-mother-in-law, Sharon Johnson; brother-in-law, Michael (Terri) Johnson; and numerous nieces’ nephews and cousins.

David was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Dennis Johnson; and mother-in-law, Shirley Johnson.

The family will greet guest on Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM in Jerusalem Church, 1417 Stonecreek Rd SW at New Philadelphia. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM in the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
