David Michael Freitag, age 43, of Dover, died peacefully early Saturday morning, November 17, 2007, in his home with his wife at his side, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born at Canton, Ohio, April 30, 1964, David was one of three sons born to Richard and Sue Rice Freitag who reside at East Sparta. David graduated from Sandy Valley High School in 1982 and went to work in the maintenance department with the Timken Company. Most of his career was spent affiliated with Minteq, formerly Zedmark. Nearly ten years ago, David became an electrician. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local # 540 based at Canton, and for the past eight years, had worked with Wood Electric based at Dover. Those who knew David marveled at his intelligence. With a photographic memory, David was a quick study of electrical and mechanical manuals and instructions. He enjoyed tinkering in the garage with his friends, and always seemed to have the ongoing project of restoring his 1969 Harley Davidson FLH. Dave was proud that his son, Dustin, participated in dirt bike racing, and took the time to sponsor and support his son’s racing pursuits as they traveled to different tracks in Ohio and western Pennsylvania. He’ll be sadly missed by his wife, the former Jodi Zaugg of Dover, whom he married February 28, 1998, his son, Dustin Freitag of Strasburg, and daughter, Kayla Freitag of the home; two brothers, Dale and his wife Carol Freitag of Louisville, Ohio, and Daniel Freitag of New Philadelphia; his mother and father-in-law Deanna and Robert Zaugg of Dover; numerous nieces and nephews, and a special friend Ilene Thompson, of Dover. The family will receive guests Tuesday, November 20, from 2-4 and from 6-8 in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. David’s life will be celebrated Wednesday afternoon at 1PM in a ceremony lead by family and friends at the funeral center. Inurnment will follow in Dover Burial Park and a reception will follow back at Geib Funeral Center. The Freitag family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH 44622. Geib Funeral Center at Dover(330) 343-5506www.geibfuneral.com
