David L. Espenschied

David L. Espenschied, a loving husband and father, died suddenly Thursday morning, April 27, 2006, in Aultman Hospital at Canton at the age of 49. Born at Mount Vernon, Ohio, May 31, 1956, he was a son of the late Earl and Ethel Shaklee Espenschied. Well known throughout the construction industry, David was co-owner vice-president and operator of Ohio Bridge Stripping and Ohio Bridge Rigging. Whether at work or home, David was a hard worker who enjoyed being outdoors. He enjoyed outdoor activities like boating and fishing Â? only hours before his death he was wondering the wooded areas near his home on a successful mushroom hunt. On June 26, 1982 David married the love of his life, the former Sandra Collins. The couple reunited in 2000. For the past 13 years, David has relished his role as father to a wonderful son Â? his “pride & joy” Brock Espenschied. Together Sandra and Brock will continue David’s hallmark style of walking through life with the purpose of making others smile or laugh with a quick joke or story. In addition to his wife and son, who reside at Dover, David leaves behind an extensive family that includes two brothers; William Espenschied of Davenport, Florida, and Ed (Polly) Espenschied of Strasburg, two sisters; Barbara (William) Swegheimer of Dover, and Doris Hardy and her special friend Todd Preacher of Massillon, a step-brother; Ronald Espenschied and step-mother Carol Espenschied, both of Trenton, Florida, his mother-in-law Glenna “Mammaw” Collins of Dover, sisters-in-law Kathy Kail and fiancé Bill Hug of Dellroy, Karen (Chuck) Macomber of New Philadelphia, and Candie (Dave) Dallas of Dover; a brother-in-law, Mike Collins of Dover, nieces; Ashley (Chris) Bolton of New Philadelphia, Emily Macomber of New Philadelphia, Tiffany Heilman of Dover, Haley Heilman of Canton, Brianna Collins of Tampa, Florida, Miranda Dallas of Dover, Marchessa Dallas of Texas, Tori (Todd) Tedrick of Strasburg, Kristy (Jimmy) Anderson of Dover, Lisa Espenschied of Shelbyville, Kentucky, and Jessica (Ben) Tackett of Beach City, nephews; Jim Swegheimer of Florida, Paul Swegheimer of Strasburg, William “Will” Espenschied of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Andy Kail and fiancé Jen Fry of Dellroy, Robbie Kail of Dellroy, Chuck Macomber and fiancé Melissa Metz of New Philadelphia, John Dallas and Paul Dallas both of Texas, Jimmy Collins of Tampa, Florida and Shane Blackwell of Strasburg. Great-nieces Anna Kail, Elizabeth Bolton, Destiny Collins, Taylor Collins, Katie Macomber, Jasmine Macomber, Cheyenne Macomber, Trinity Tackett, Elexis Anderson, Alexis Tedrick and great-nephews Bruen Swegheimer, Taylor Tackett, Bennie Tackett, Devon Anderson and Zachary Tedrick as well as numerous aunts and uncles.In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his nephew, Army Spec. Richard Allen Hardy, niece Stacy E. Kail, father-in-law James B. Collins, sister-in-law Kim Collins, and a brother-in-law James Collins and maternal grandparents Orion and Iva Shaklee and paternal grandparents William and Goldie Espenschied.Dave was a member of the Bass Fishing Club, a social member of Post 1445 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at New Philadelphia, Local 171 of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners of America, and Local 18 of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Dave was a friend to many people and will be greatly missed by all. Dave’s family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 2PM Â? 4PM and from 6PM Â? 8PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Pastor Tim Hatfield will lead a funeral celebrating David’s life Tuesday morning at 10:30 in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the committal service, a reception will be given in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Those unable to attend are invited to send condolences to the family, sign an online guest registry and view a memorial to David’s life by visiting the funeral home’s website.Memorial contributions may be made to a scholarship fund to benefit David’s son, Brock in his future educational endeavors in care of the Dover-Phila Federal Credit Union, 119 Fillmore Avenue, Dover, Ohio, 44622.
