David F. Miller

David F. “Frank” Miller, 89, of Port Washington, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014 in Oak Pointe Nursing & Rehab Center at Baltic.

Born September 28, 1924 in Gilmore, Ohio, he was the son of the late Clarence W. and Lucinda J. (Peeper) Miller.

On September 14, 1958, Frank married his lifelong companion and friend, the former Thelma L. Wyler. Together, they were members of Zion Lutheran Church in Stone Creek.

Frank honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was captured during the Battle of the Buldge and held as a German Prisoner of War.

Upon return home, he spent his professional career working and ultimately retiring from the Tuscarawas County Road & Bridge Department.

Frank was a member of the Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau, the Newcomerstown American Legion Post #431, and the American Ex-Prisoners of War.

Frank will be deeply missed by his wife of 55 years, Thelma; his sons, David F. (Joy) Miller of Wapakaneta, Ohio and Dale R. (Cheryl) Miller of Cedar Grove, Indiana; his grandsons, Jakob Miller of Columbus, Nickolas Miller of Indianapolis, Indiana, Patrick Miller of Knoxville, Tennessee, Joshua Miller of Toledo, and Daniel Miller of Springfield.

In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his brother, John H. Miller.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Thursday, February 13, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. A service celebrating his life will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church at Stone Creek with Dr. William Haggis officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Garden at Dover where the New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445 will render military honors.

Friends are invited to the church following the committal service where a meal will be served by Frank’s church family.
