David Eugene Kerr, 75, of Mineral City, died Saturday, January 10, 2009 in New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover.A son of the late Walter and Margery (Thomas) Kerr, David was born September 11, 1933 at Iberia, Ohio.David graduated in 1953 from Iberia High School and he then continued his education at Central Missouri University graduating with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree. After graduating from college, David served as a pastor for seven years at Missouri before moving to Ohio.On August 26, 1956, he married the former Virginia Lee Silvus. Together, the couple reared four children, Robert, Linda, Brian and Christopher.David was employed by the Tuscarawas Valley School District as a teacher for nearly 30 years. He taught 5th grade at Mineral City Elementary and spent the last two years of his career at New Cumberland Elementary.He was a member of the First Baptist Church at New Philadelphia and was a member of the Ruritans Club. David was a veteran of the United States Army having served stateside during the Korean War. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid fisherman.He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Virginia Kerr; his children, Robert (Karen) Kerr of New Philadelphia, Linda (Thomas) Nixon of Long Beach, California; Brian Kerr of Mineral City and Christopher (Vicki) Kerr of Dover and five grandchildren, Samantha, David, Jenny, Jonathan and Sarah Kerr.Three sisters, Sharon Peoples of Galion, Ohio, Joan Burke of Beloit, Wisconsin and Darlene Wilson of Atlanta, Michigan and numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.Family and friends may call on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating David’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Pastor Chauncey Eggan officiating. Burial will take place in Iberia Cemetery. In keeping with the family’s wishes, there will be no graveside service at the cemetery.Contributions may be made in David’s memory to the Michael J.
