David Charles Ekama, 27, of New Philadelphia died unexpectedly on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at his home. David was the youngest child of Jerrit Ekama and Kathleen (Wong) Ekama.
David graduated from Garaway High School in 2007, where he was a member of the wrestling team and Band. After graduation, he continued his education at the Ohio College of Massotherapy. David then transferred to Stark State College and Kent State University to pursue a degree in Sound Technology.
He was a member of the United Church of God and attended with the North Canton congregation where he enjoyed serving in many different capacities. David especially enjoyed volunteering as a sound engineer in his local church and at the Feast of Tabernacles. David loved the outdoors and was a member of the Boy Scouts and 4-H.
David was a special young man. He cherished his loved ones as well as anyone else he met. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, especially for his wonderful sense of humor, his soft touch and gentle massages, and his willingness to serve.
In addition to his parents, David is survived by his siblings, Tanya, Talitha, Nathan, and Peter; his grandparents, Charles and Winifred Wong and his Ohana in California and Hawaii.
David was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Peter and Eugenia Ekama.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 6-8pm and on Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 12-2pm at the Geib Funeral Center, 5600 N. Wooster Ave., Dover, OH 44622. A funeral service will take place on Sunday from 2pm with Pastor Randy Stiver officiating. A memorial reception will be held in the Hospitality Room in the Geib Funeral Center following the service.
