David Altier

David Michael Altier, age 66, of New Philadelphia, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 19, 2015, while in New Dawn Health Care Center at Dover, following a period of declining health.

A son of Fred and JoAnne (Myers) Altier of New Philadelphia, Dave was born on March 26, 1949 in Union Hospital at Dover.

He was a 1967 graduate of Dover High School and began working for the former Nobles Shoe Company. Dave was later employed by Shenango of Dover and worked alongside his father for many years as they operated a home maintenance and repair business. Dave ultimately retired from Hydraulic Machines, Inc. of New Philadelphia.

Dave was a wonderful, son, husband, father, grandfather and friend who enjoyed any activity he could with his family. It did not matter if he was boating and fishing on Lake Erie or supporting his son’s and later grandson’s sporting and school activities, Dave truly enjoyed life.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, the former Ann Nelson, whom he married on January 16, 1971; their son, Mike (Sara) Altier of Hilliard; three grandsons, Nathan, Alex, and Tyler; his sister-in-law, Carol (John) Anderson of New Philadelphia; his brother-in-law, Gary (Barb) Nelson of Wooster and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will greet guest on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 from 4-7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:45 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated by Fr. William Arnold and Fr. Jeff Coning on Wednesday at 10:30 AM in Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia. Following the service, all are invited to join the family for a time of food and fellowship in the Geib Family Center. Private inurnment will take place at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
