David A. Fawcett, 68, of Gnadenhutten, passed away at Union Hospital in Dover on November 4, 2013 following a lengthy, and courageous battle with declining health.
Born in Dover on June 8, 1945, he was the son of the late Sara L. (Jackson) and Ernest “Bud” Fawcett, his mother and step-father, and his father, Kenneth W. Fawcett.
After graduating from New Philadelphia High School in 1964, David married his lifelong companion and friend, the former Sandra “Sandy” Ritchie. Together, they enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 42 years and were blessed with two children, Lori and Todd.
David’s professional career as a car mechanic spanned numerous years. He retired from Auto Zone.
He also volunteered his time with the Gnadenhutten Fire Department, where he served as a former chief.
He also was an avid NASCAR fan, and in his earlier years, loved to dirt track race. He also greatly enjoyed participating in the Gnadenhutten Fourth of July celebrations.
Memberships included the Indians Springs Ruritans where he served as a former treasurer. He was also very active at his church, Park Christian in Dennison.
He gave the gift of sight at the time of his passing through the Cleveland Eye Bank.
He leaves behind his wife, Sandy; his children, Lori Rogers of Gnadenhutten and Todd (Jennifer) Fawcett of Wainwright; his grandchildren, Cody and Christian Rogers and Maxine and Esther Fawcett; his sisters, Kathryn (Jim) Hostetler of Sugarcreek and Susie (Jim) Schwartz of New Philadelphia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and step-father, he was preceded in death by his siblings including Chuck, John, and Becky Fawcett.
Memorial visitation will be held in Park Christian Church in Dennison on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. A firefighter’s service will begin at 7 p.m. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Friday at 11 am in the church with a meal following the service in the church fellowship hall. Cremation will be cared for through Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory.
David’s family is incredibly grateful to the staff and doctors who assisted David through his declining health, including DaVita Dialysis Center in Dover.
