David A. Ehrhart

David A. Ehrhart, age 77, of Dover, died Friday, August 08, 2008, in Country Club Retirement Campus at Dover following a lengthy illness.A son of the late Edgar and Naomia (Krauss) Ehrhart, Dave was born June 22, 1931, at New Philadelphia.He was a graduate of New Philadelphia High School’s class of 1949 and was also an Eagle Scout.On December 10, 1949, David married the former Wanda Kollar in the First United Church of Christ at New Philadelphia and together, the couple are parents of four children.David dutifully served his country in the United States Army for more than two years and upon his separation in 1954, he had been awarded with the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.Mr. Ehrhart returned to the Tuscarawas Valley and began attending evening classes at the New Philadelphia High School and earned his certification in civil engineering. For more than 30 years, Dave worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation as a surveyor.Throughout his life, Dave was an especially active member in many civic organizations that included area Masonic Lodges, the Shriners Tadmor Lodge, The New Philadelphia Elks, The Atwood Yacht Club, and the Disabled American Veterans. Additionally, Dave was an active member of the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association and for a time also served as president.In addition to his wife of 58 years, they are survived by their four children, Cathy (Ray) Belknap, Carol (Richard) Dean, Robert Ehrhart all of New Philadelphia and Lisa (James) Decker of Scarsdale, New York; a sister; Marjorie K. Ehrhart of Augusta, Georgia; and a brother, Jack Ehrhart of Bedford, New Hampshire.Seven grandchildren, Eric (Kim) Belknap of Pickerington, Shawn (Brenda) Belknap of Bowerston, Tiffiny (Kelby) Siler of Cincinnati, Brooke Dean of St. Paul, Minnesota, Mandy (Chris) Miller of New Philadelphia, and Sam and Hannah Decker of Scarsdale, New York and eight great-grandchildren complete the family.A memorial service for Mr. Ehrhart will be led by Pastors Jeff Gerber and Jill Lovett at 1:30 PM on Sunday, August 10, 2008, in the chapel of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
