David A. Eckert

David A. Eckert, 64, of New Philadelphia, passed away June 19, 2016 in his home following an apparent heart attack.

Born in Massillon on February 22, 1952, he was the son of the late Calvin A. and Phyllis L. (Bliss) Jr. After graduating from Dover High School he continued his education at Kent State University and was a member of the ROTC.

He was employed by Kent and Dover cities as a police officer, worked as a Tuscarawas County Sheriff Deputy, and was a New Philadelphia Fireman, ultimately retiring in 2000.

Dave was a member of Ducks Unlimited, the NRA, and was a trustee of the Tusco Rifle Club. He also loved to hunt and fish in Canada.

He will be deeply missed by his fiancé, Georgia Sweaney of New Philadelphia; his brother, Steve (Kim) Eckert of Dover; and his nieces and nephews, Tony (companion, Stephanie Dischinger), Jon-Michael (Megan), Tatum (fiancé, Alex Breznak), Kody, and Sami Eckert; and his great-nephews, Cameron and Cruz; and his beloved pets, Timbuc and Tyja.

A private inurnment will be held in Evergreen Burial Park at a later date.
