Daryl Wesley “Mike” Watkins, 86, of Waynesburg, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2012 in Aultman Hospital at Canton following an extended illness.

Born September 11, 1926 in Wheeling, WV, Mike was the son of the late Mathew and Iva Lavern (Hanning) Watkins.

After graduating from Nelsonville High School, Mike married his lifelong companion, the former Betty Jane Kesterson on September 21, 1947 in Columbus. This past Friday, they celebrated 65 years of marriage.

His professional career spanned numerous years, ultimately retiring as a plant engineer with Crescent Brick Corporation in East Canton.

Mike will long be remembered as an avid golfer and fan of the Cincinnati Reds, the Cleveland Browns, and The Ohio State Buckeyes.

His faith was nurtured at the First Presbyterian Church of Waynesburg where he has held a membership for numerous years. He was also a former ruling elder in the church.

Mike will be deeply missed by his wife, Betty Jane; his sons, Jeff (Susan) Watkins of the Sandyville area and David (Angela) Watkins of Massillon; his daughter, Lori (fiancé, Mike) Bowers of East Canton; his grandchildren, Alison (Hardin) Butcher of Yonkers, NY, Matthew (Jessica) Watkins of Massillon, Zachary Watkins of Massillon and Ryan Bowers of East Canton; his great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Roth; and two nephews and two nieces.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Susann; one brother and one sister.

Cremation will take place through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
