Darlene F. Ashbaugh

April 21, 1943 — July 22, 2015

Darlene F. Ashbaugh, 72, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family in Schoenbrunn Healthcare Center on July 22, 2015 following a period of declining health.

Born on April 21, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Earl R. and Annabelle (Smitley) Cox. After graduating from Midvale High School in 1961, Darlene married her high school sweetheart, John Ashbaugh, on October 27, 1962.

Together, they were blessed with the birth of six daughters and 11 grandchildren. Darlene enjoyed each and every moment shared with them whether it was at a sporting event, playing cards, a family get-together, or a quiet evening watching Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune. They were also members of Midvale United Methodist Church.

She will be deeply missed by her husband, John of New Philadelphia; her daughters, Vickie (Richard) Moore of Strasburg, Cindy (Bob) Anderson of Midvale, Dianne (Lyle) Dickey of Dover, Becky (Greg) Rennicker of Dover, and Lisa Ashbaugh of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, Alyssa and Ashlee Moore, Robby, Brandon, Cari, and Cameron Anderson, Kyler, Kaden, and Keara Dickey, and Brent and Curtis Rennicker; her brother, Gerald Cox; her sisters-in-law, Carol (Edgar) Richardson, Donna Booth, and Nancy Cox; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Darlene was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Ashbaugh; her brothers, Robert and Pete Cox; her parents-in-law, Homer and Wilma Ashbaugh; her sisters-in-law, Norma Jean (Harold) Booth and Eleanor Cox; and her brother-in-law, Dan Booth.

A service celebrating Darlene’s life will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home chapel at New Philadelphia on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. with Rev. Richard Rose officiating. Visitation will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Friends are invited to the Dover Alliance Church following the committal service where a meal will be shared.
