Darlene E. Swinderman, 84, of New Philadelphia, died unexpectedly on Monday, August 17, 2015 at her home.
A daughter of the late Clayton and Nina (Rainsburg) Elliott, Darlene was born May 19, 1931.
On May 29, 1948 in Greenup, Kentucky, Darlene married the love of her life, Kenneth Swinderman. The couple shared 53 years of marriage prior to Kenneth’s passing on June 3, 2001.
Darlene was a lifetime member of Schoenbrunn Moravian Church where she led the prayer chain. She worked as a patient activist at Schoenbrunn Nursing Home and also served as a volunteer in the gift shop at Trumpet in the Land.
She is survived by her daughters, Lois Ann Swinderman and her companion Clete Back of Mansfield and Linda Kay Bonnell and her husband Terry of New Philadelphia; a granddaughter, Tara (Justin) Zinser of Independence, Kentucky; a grandson, Todd (Kelly) Bonnell of Cincinnati:; her great grandchildren, Calleigh Bonnell and Nathan, Aiden and Peyton Zinser; a dear friend, Vi Menapace of New Philadelphia and many nieces and nephews.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Larry Swinderman; a sister, Connie Smith and a brother, Fredrick Elliott.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 21, 2015 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Darlene’s life will follow in the funeral home at 2 p.m. with Rev. Darrell Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
