March 25, 1966 — March 26, 2015

Darla Dee Chumney Allen, age 49, of Mineral City, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, March 26, 2015 following an extended period of declining health while in the care of Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia.

A daughter of Eugene and Shirley (Miller) Chumney of Mineral City, Darla was born on March 25, 1966 in Union Hospital at Dover.

She was a 1984 graduate of Tusky Valley High School and Buckeye Career Center, earning her certification as a Dental Technician. She was employed by New Horizons Developmental Providers. She had a big heart for those who were developmentally disabled and loved working with each of her clients.

Darla also had a great love for animals, especially horses. She enjoyed working with, training, and boarding horses through the years as well as keeping chickens, and working with her hunting dog, Copper.

Darla’s additional passions included keeping a vegetable garden, preserving the harvest, creating eclectic yard art, and maintaining her own decorating style inside and outside of her home.

In addition to her parents, Darla is survived by her children, Abigail and Cody Allen; her longtime companion, Ronnie Jones and his daughters, Heather and Kali Jones, and her children’s father, Scott Allen.

Also surviving are siblings, Jim (Patti) Williams, LaVonne DeBois, Kevin (Janet) Chumney, Tyronne Chumney, Lisa (Lanny) Rosenberry, Gloria (Ron) Lester, and Shonda (Bob) Davis, numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Beth Boyd, LaDonna McCleary, Chad and Courtney Pyles and many lifelong friends.

The family will greet guests on Sunday, March 29, 2015 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Pastor Dan Legg will lead a service celebrating Darla’s life in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Monday, March, 30 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in the Dover Burial Park. Following the service, all are invited to return to the Hospitality Room of the Dover Geib Center for a time of food and fellowship.
