Danny R. Hilton

Danny R. Hilton, 72, of Dover, died Thursday, July 11, 2013 at his home following a lengthy illness.

A son of the late Bud Smith and the late Evalyn (Fritz) Smith, Danny was born September 30, 1940 at Greenup, Kentucky.

Danny was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict.

He was the owner and operator of the former Army-Navy Garrison at Dover as well as the Bolivar Army-Navy Garrison with his dear friend and business partner, Larry Kopp. Danny also held memberships at the former Dover VFW, the New Philadelphia VFW, the Dover Eagles and the former New Philadelphia Moose Lodge.

Danny enjoyed being in the company of friends and acquaintances he met through the various clubs. He also enjoyed playing cards and golfing in his younger years.

He is survived by his children, Debbie (Tom) Thompson of Spring Grove, Pennsylvania, Danny Hilton Jr. of New Oxford, Pennsylvania and Dwayne (Pauline) Hilton of Spring Grove, Pennsylvania; his grandchildren, Thomas, Jeffery (Abbie) and Karl (fiancé, Sarah LaMotte) Thompson, Melissa (fiance, Mark Johnson) Forney and Audrey Hilton; a great granddaughter, Anna Thompson; two sisters, Susan (Jeff) Miller of Dover and Naomi (Art) Downend of New Philadelphia; his 19 year companion whom he dearly loved, Sheila Duvall of Dover a special neighbor, Bill Harmon and many dear friends from the clubs.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Douglas Hilton and a brother, Gary Hilton.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 12, 2013 (TODAY) from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. A funeral service celebrating Danny’s life will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Chad Durfee officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Dover Burial Park.
