Danny Lee Walker

Danny Lee Walker, age 78 of New Philadelphia, died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 09, 2013.

Born on February 3, 1935 at Union Township in Tuscarawas County, Danny was a son of the late Harold and Althea (Benedum) Walker.

He attended Dover High School and joined J&M Mining for more than a decade prior to a 27 year career with Ohio Machinery at Cadiz, where he worked as a service mechanic.

An active member of Sharon Moravian Church at Tuscarawas, Danny served as a Trustee, a Deiner, and 20 years as Head Usher, in which he faithfully ensured the church was open and prepared for service every Sunday morning. He was also a longtime member of the Sharon “A” Dartball Team.

Those who knew Danny knew of his love for cars, especially Chryslers, and the pride he took in keeping them in impeccable shape and in top running order.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Jean Davis, whom he married on October 16, 1954; two daughters, Debra (Chuck) Oszust of Tuscarawas and Sandra (Mike) Schupp of New Philadelphia and a sister, Etta McKain of Dover.

Completing the family are four grandchildren, Dena (Jim) Stephens, Jason (Sarah) Crites, and Steven (Krisha) Schupp all of Gnadenhutten and Ashley (Matt) Anthony of Delaware, Ohio; five great-grandchildren, Brianna and Kelsie Stephens, Jason Crites, Jr., Caine and Cooper Anthony as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Danny is preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Canfield, Elsie Herbert, and Ina Herbert, and three brothers, Austin, Dean and Delbert Walker.

The family will receive guests on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Rev Dennis G. Rohn will lead a celebration of Danny’s life in the Sharon Moravian Church on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM with the family again greeting guests in the church one hour prior to services. Burial will follow in the Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery.

Following the service, all are invited to share in a meal and fellowship in the social hall of the Sharon Moravian Church.
