Daniel L. Harding, age 73, of New Philadelphia, died Saturday, April 26, 2025, in Ohio’s Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia after a courageous 2-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
The eldest son of the late Vernon and Florence (Crone) Harding, Dan was born on March 29, 1952 at Dover, Ohio.
Dan held a variety of positions during his 45-year career with Nickles Bakery, working his way up to Production Supervisor and becoming one of the longest tenured employees in the company’s history. He volunteered in the New Philadelphia Jaycees for 15 years, serving as Chapter President and District Director. Dan had a passion for coaching baseball, first in pony league and later as coach of Rotary in the New Philadelphia little league for over ten years. He enjoyed singing and was active in the Sacred Heart Choir, Tuscarawas Senior Center “Forever Young” Choir and the Schoenbrunn Valley Barbershop Chorus. He volunteered for 9 years with Mobile Meals of Dover-New Phila where he also served on the board.
Dan was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and never missed an opportunity to proudly cheer on his grandchildren at their sporting events. In his free-time, Dan enjoyed golfing and following all the Cleveland and Ohio State sports teams.
He is survived by his wife, the former Rebecca Paulin, whom he married on June 10, 1972; son, Matthew (Jamie) Harding of Medina; daughter, Danielle (Dustin) Zimmerman of Bowerston; grandson, Branson Harding; granddaughter, Lia Harding; brother, James (Brenda) Harding; sister, Shelley (Christopher) Beadnell; sister-in-law, Peggy (Bruce) Sherman; brother-in-law’s, John Paulin, Nick (Natalie) Liberatore, and Steve Liberatore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will greet guests on Saturday, May 17, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:30 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 139 3rd St. NE at New Philadelphia. Father Jeff Coning will celebrate Mass beginning at 11:30 AM in the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Ohio’s Hospice for the excellent care they provided to Dan in his final days.
