Dallas Harold Leavers

Dallas Harold Leavers, age 64, of Dover, entered his heavenly rest Friday evening, April 16, 2010 with his family at his side. Born at Canton, November 27, 1945, he was a son of Betty May Morgan Smith of Dover, and the late Joseph Olin Leavers. Dallas attended Dover High School before entering the United States Army, serving honorably between 1966 and 1968. He’ll be remembered as a loving father and grandfather, who worked hard to support his family. Dallas worked at the former Oak Park Mine at Cadiz before embarking on a career as a truck driver that spanned two decades with Reese Trucking.A man of faith, Dallas was a born again believer, a member of the Teamsters Union #92 and felt personally each victory and loss of his beloved Cleveland Indians. Dallas is now reunited with his wife, the former Linda Louise Abel, whom he married March 8, 1967, and who preceded him in death in March, 2008. Together they reared a family that includes a daughter; Denise Louise (husband, Randy) Miller, of Dover, Joseph H. (wife, Kori) Leavers of New Philadelphia, and Steven W.D. Leavers of Dover. He’ll be sadly missed by his five granddaughters; Chelsea and Lindsey Miller, and Linda, Alexis and Alliana Leavers. A sister, Odessa “Sis” (husband, Dale) Peacock of Dover and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws complete his family. The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 4PM Â? 6PM in the First Baptist Church at New Philadelphia. Pastors Mark Jones and Ryan Ervin will lead a Celebration of Dallas’ Life Thursday evening at 6PM in the church auditorium. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Private interment with military honors in Dover Burial Park is planned. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Dallas Leavers Memorial Fund at any Citizens Bank, or by mail to their office at 114 North Broadway, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
