Dale Lauren Foland, 85, of New Philadelphia, Ohio died Sunday, January 17, 2016 in the Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Hugh and Lorene Foland of Cuyahoga Fall, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy and daughter, Marilyn Foland-Perrone and his constant companion, Rusty. He is also survived by his sisters, Sherrie Chronister, Wilma Foland and Freda (Blaze) Carlsen and her husband, Ray, and sisters-in-law, Carol Hall and her husband, Eber, and Wendy Venne, and five nephews and eleven nieces and twenty others that call him Uncle Dale. Dale was preceded in death by brother, Virgil Foland.
Dale Foland graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and attended Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, where he played football and wrestled. He then went into the Marine Corp. He was a Drill Sergeant at Paris Island and Sergeant in the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart.
Dale began his professional career at Hamilton Kent in Kent, Ohio. On an extended trip to Canada he met Dorothy. They married in 1959 in Cuyahoga Falls. In 1965 Dale founded Lauren Manufacturing and eventually moved it from Kent to New Philadelphia, Ohio. Dale continued to pour his blood, sweat, and tears into his baby. He added many new companies into the mix under the umbrella of Lauren International.
Lauren was his brain trust and hobby but Dale Foland was more than Lauren Manufacturing. He and Dorothy assisted many nieces and nephews and grand-nephews and grand-nieces with their college education as well as close family friends through the Foland Education Fund. One of Dale’s favorite projects was the Tuscarawas County Center for the Arts right behind Lauren. He loved to take Rusty and visit with Jeannine Kennedy at the Center. Dale and Dorothy over the years have supported Kent State University Tuscarawas with Lauren through the science department as well as the performing arts center. Union Hospital has also been large recipient. Dale was a silent giver to many people whose names will remain anonymous.
A memorial service celebrating Dale’s life will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 1 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center, 5600 N. Wooster Avenue, Dover, OH 44622. A reception will follow the service in the funeral home where the family will greet guests.
