Dale E. Sweaney, 77, New Philadelphia, died suddenly on Wednesday, September 15, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in Canton.A son of the late Paul and Helen Shaffer Sweaney, Dale was born May 24, 1927 in New Philadelphia.During World War II, he served his country in the United States Army and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal-Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1947.When he returned to civilian life, he was a construction worker and truck driver. He loved the outdoors, particularly fishing, and was a charter member of the Clendening Fishing Club. Family time was especially important to him, and he fondly anticipated visits from his daughters and their families.He will be greatly missed by his wife of 53 years, the former Adelaide “Addie” G. Groff; four daughters, Alexis (Lenny) Boley of Carrollton, Deanna Sweaney and friend, Adrian Garber of New Philadelphia, Tracy and Mike Meese of Dover, and Georgia Sweaney and finace David Eckert of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Stacy and Emery Jett, Junior and Becky Boley, Jeff and Lori Boley and Christy and Eric Orum; great-grandchildren, Hailey Dale Jett, Rodney Boley, Ryan Boley, Alexis Berea Boley, and Tiffany Orum; sister, Norma Jean Roberts of Bucyrus; and niece, Judith Roberts of Lexington.Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Monday, September 20, 2004, in the chapel at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. Immediately following visitation, funeral services will begin at 11:00 am, officiated by Pastor Jerome Bell. Burial will be at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens in Dover where military rites will be conducted by the New Philadelphia VFW.Memorial contributions may be made to the Dale E.
