Dafnes Walker, 67, of Somerdale, went home to be with her Lord Jesus on Friday evening, March 26, 2004. She was surrounded by her family singing her favorite gospel hymns at home when she died.Dafnes was born in Cherry Orchard, near Stella, KY, on April 1, 1936 to the late Haskel and Emily Jane Allen Dunn. She looked forward to going back home to Cherry Orchard every year for Memorial Day, and to hear the whippoorwill’s singing in the stillness of the evening.On November 29, 1959, Dafnes married Gerald “Mick” Walker, who survives. The couple raised three daughters, Leisha (Gary) Bellerive and Daphne (Tom) Barker, both of Somerdale; their daughter Geraldine Walker died January 18, 1984. Also surviving are four grandsons, Beau & Brock Bellerive and Brennan & Jordan Barker; a sister, Barbara (Don) Laubacher of Carrollton and four brothers, John C. (Louella) Dunn of Somerdale; James (Sandy) Dunn of New Cumberland; David Dunn of Mineral City; and Allen (Amy) Dunn of Somerdale; and her mother-in-law, Lorinda Walker of New Philadelphia. In addition to her parents and daughter, Dafnes was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Rose Dunn and father-in-law, Otis T. Walker, Sr.Dafnes was a devoted family woman. She enjoyed looking after her entire family, who all live near-by. An excellent cook, she will be remembered for her fine Southern-style cooking, especially her fried chicken and cornbread. Besides her family life, she loved caring for her garden and feeding the birds in their yard and tending to her chickens. Most of all, Dafnes had a strong faith in her Lord and demonstrated it in her daily life.Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 30, 2004 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home. The funeral will be in the funeral home on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at 10:30 AM with her pastor, Rev. Henry E. Mooney, officiating. Burial will follow at New Cumberland Cemetery. Following the cemetery service, everyone is invited to continue in celebrating Dafnes’ life by sharing a meal in the Family Life Center at Roxford United Methodist Church.Contributions honoring her life may be made to the Roxford United Methodist Church Building Fund, 771 Roxford Church Rd., SE, Dennison, OH 44621
