Curtis Gribble, Jr., 81, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, Friday, October 11, 2002, at Union Hospital, in Dover.Born April 26, 1921, in Midvale, he was the son of the late Edna Stocksdale & Curtis Gribble, Sr. Curtis was a proud veteran of WWII, serving honorably with the Navy in the Pacific Theater.Curt retired as Chief Electrician from Greer Steel, Dover, in 1983, following 30 years of service. He was a lifetime member and Past Commander of New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445.A life long accomplished musician, Curt performed at various Blue Grass events through out Ohio, Virginia and Florida.Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Catherine Yuhos Gribble, whom he married March 8, 1940; son, James (Margaret) C. Gribble of Chestertown, Maryland; three daughters, Judy (Thomas) Farbizo, of New Philadelphia Karen (Bruce) McCrea of New Philadelphia, Shirlie (Dennis) Kimmel of Yorktown, VA; 7 Grandchildren, Curtis and Julie Gribble, Michael, Christopher and Amanda Farbizo, Zachary Nemeth and Morgan McCrea; one great-grandchild, Sean Gribble.In addition to his parents, Curt was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Robert Gribble.A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 14, 2002, at 10 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home, New Philadelphia, with Rev. Jim Borton officiating. Burial will follow at East Avenue Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by New Philadelphia VFW Post # 1445. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the First Christian Church, 104 Third Street, and New Philadelphia, following the service. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 13, from 2-5 PM in the funeral home.
