Cora B. Erwin, 66, of New Philadelphia passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 in New Dawn Healthcare Center in Dover.

Born in Midvale, on May 3, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Burton and Margaret (Welch) Cook. After graduating from Midvale High School, Cora married her husband, the late Russell T. Erwin, Sr., on May 19, 1978.

Cora worked for Union Hospital in housekeeping throughout her career. Her free time was spent vacationing at the beach, especially Myrtle Beach, 4 times a year. She also loved to garden.

Memberships included the New Philadelphia VFW and Sam’s at New Philadelphia.

Cora will be deeply missed by her children, Johnnie (Jodie) Barron of Port Washington, DeNece (companion, Dean Miller) Richardson of Brookeville, IN, Julie Erwin Prettyman of Dover, and Russell T. (companion, Alanna Galmish) Erwin, Jr. of dover; her grandchildren, Brittany, Mitch, Morgan, Katie, Raquel, Cheyenne, Jonathan, Hannah, Meah, Russell T. Erwin, III, and one granddaughter expected in October; her siblings, Barb (David) Demattio of Mississippi, Jane Yakley of Ragersville, and Lee Cook of Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Russell, on July 15, 2004, and her brother-in-law, Butch Yakley.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home’s chapel on Friday beginning at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Inurnment will follow in East Avenue Cemetery.

Friends are invited to the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home, where a meal will be shared following the committal service.
