Constance “Connie” Jean Ivan, age 67 of New Philadelphia passed away Saturday evening, March 14, 2009 at Union Hospital in Dover following a lengthy illness.Born in Dover on August 26, 1941, she was the daughter of Peter S. Mroczkowski and the late Mary (Chitti) Mroczkowski.After graduating from St. Mary’s at Dennison in 1959, Connie continued her formal education at the Mercy School of Nursing where she graduated as a registered nurse in 1961. While in Columbus, Connie met and fell in love with her husband of 45 years, William “Bill” Ivan. Together, they enjoyed living where Bill was stationed during his military service career. No matter where she was, Connie always had her hands in nursing and helping others. She retired as the Director of Nursing after more than 14 years of service to Country Club Retirement Campus in Dover.She was a lady of many talents, had a great deal of compassion toward others, and was a gifted artist. Connie spent countless hours making the perfect wedding cake for numerous brides. She also was a skilled cook and baker. Her family and friends always enjoyed a plentiful home-cooked meal where the food was delicious and the conversation, enjoyable. Other hobbies she enjoyed included candle making, golfing, bowling and ceramics. She will also be remembered as a devoted 6 time Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers fan and an avid NASCAR and Jimmy Johnson supporter.Together with Bill, Connie reared two children who will deeply miss her including, Mary Jo (Jerry) Brown of Ashville, O. and Michael P. Ivan of New Philadelphia. She will also be missed by her sister, Marlene Mattevi of Columbus, her brother, Gerald L. (Ann) Mroczkowski of Dover, her granddaughter, Caitlin J. Brown; her brother-in-law, Donald F. (Mary Lou) Ivan of Glassport, PA; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Several aunts and uncles complete the family.Connie’s family request memorial contributions be directed to Tuscarawas County Public Library, 121 Fair Ave. NW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 from 9 to 10 a.m. Msgr. George J. Schlegel will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10: 30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia, where she was a member. Family and friends are then invited to the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home, where a light luncheon will be served.
