Clyde Emerson Mizer, age 88, a lifelong resident of Stone Creek, died Saturday morning, October 29, 2005 in Union Hospital at Dover.Born at home in Stone Creek on March 9, 1917, Clyde was one of three children born to the late Harvey and Lillian Harmon Mizer.Clyde graduated from Stone Creek High School in 1936 and went to work at the Stone Creek Brick Company. He left his work there to serve his country in the United States Army during World War II. During the war, he was stationed in the African and European Theater.Active in his community his entire life, Clyde was a charter member of the Stone Creek Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the former American Legion at Stone Creek, a past member of Stone Creek Village Council, and a lifelong member of Grace United Church of Christ. Clyde retired in the 1980’s as a foreman from the former Stone Creek Brick Company after a career there that spanned four decades.He returned to Stone Creek in 1945 with stories of his travels around the Mediterranean Sea Â? and made plans to marry his sweet-heart whom he met years before in high school, the former Wilma M. Stephan. The couple was married on November 8, 1945 at Jerusalem Church. The two would have celebrated sixty years of marriage next week.In addition to his wife, Clyde leaves behind his sister, Erma I. Mumma of Dover; nieces, Diane (Dave) Mizer of Stone Creek, and Carol (David) Smith of Smithville; nephews, Larry (Lynn) Stephan, Dale Mumma, and Bruce Mumma, all of Dover; great-nieces, Amy Mizer and Stephanie Smith; great-nephews, Terry (Pam) Mizer and Matthew Smith, as well as a great-great-nephew, Cameron Mizer.In addition to his parents, Clyde is preceded in death by a brother who died in his youth, Donald Mizer, an uncle, Willard Harmon, and a brother-in-law, Simon P. Mumma Jr. Friends are invited to call Monday afternoon, October 31 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The Rev. Glenn Shedlock will officiate funeral services for Mr. Mizer Tuesday morning, November 1, at 11 a.m. in Grace United Church of Christ at Stone Creek. Burial will follow at Stone Creek Cemetery with the Military Honor Guard of the V.F.W. #1445 conducting military honors. Following the committal service, a reception will be given in the church fellowship hall. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Grace United Church of Christ, 229 West Jefferson, Stone Creek, Ohio 43840.
