Clyde C. Cerett, 83, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, January 30, 2019 in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a long illness.
Born in Dillonvale, Ohio he was the son of the late Charles C. and Rose M. Kimble Cerett and a 1953 graduate of the former Jewett High School in Jewett, Ohio. In the 1970’s, Clyde served as a patrolman and former chief of police for the Village of Bolivar. He retired in 1985 from the Timken Company in Canton where he had worked as a supervisor and following his retirement, he continued working for Fenton Brothers’ Electric until his retirement in 2009.
Clyde served as a little league coach in Bolivar during the 1960’s and 70’s and was a member of the New Philadelphia VFW. He loved fishing from his pontoon boat on Leesville Lake, working his small vegetable garden, bowling and visiting his friends at the VFW.
Surviving are Dalene K. Cerett of the residence; three daughters, Darl (Jay) Prevatte of Virginia, Cassandra (Steve) Porter of Canton and Anitra (Frank) Lynn of Georgia; two sons, Rick (Sue) Cerett of Canton and Mike Cerett of Waunakee, Wisconsin; a step-daughter, Heather (Shane) Patacca of Toledo and a step-son, Travis (Katherine) Putnam of Gainesville, Virginia; a sister, June (Fred) Nolen of St. Charles, Illinois; a brother, Albert (Paulette) Cerett of New Philadelphia; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A son, Curtis C. Cerett; four sisters, Ruth Diaz, Virginia Dillehay, Betty Turner and Marlene Custer; and two brothers, Louis Cerett and William Cerett precede him in death.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2019 from 12:30 to 1:30 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Clyde’s life will follow in the funeral home chapel at 1:30 PM with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. A private burial will be held in Fairview Cemetery at Jewett at a later date.
