Clyde Atlee Gindlesberger, age 86, of Millersburg, died Wednesday, August 24, 2011, in Walnut Hills Nursing Home at Walnut Creek.A son of the late Earl and Emma Giauque Gindlesberger, Clyde was born in the Kenmore area of Akron, Ohio on September 25, 1924.He graduated from the former Millersburg High School, entered into the United States Army and served in the European Theatre during World War II.On July 5, 1947, Clyde married the former Margaret “Peg” Haxton and together reared one son. They shared in nearly 64 years of marriage prior to Peg’s passing on June 24 of this year.Clyde retired from the United States Postal Service where he served as a rural mail carrier. He was also a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church at Dover and a member of the Rural Mail Carriers Association.In the early 1990’s, following retirement, Clyde and Peg moved to the Bradenton, Florida and made numerous friends during the decade they lived there; later they relocated back to the Dover area to be closer to family. During his free time, Clyde enjoyed woodworking, oil painting and creating hooked rugs. Clyde is survived by his son, John (Sandra) Gindlesberger, of Millersburg; a grandson, Hans (Soyeon) Gindlesberger; one great granddaughter, Eva Gindlesberger all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; a sister, Dorothy Mackey of Wooster; a sister-in-law, Pauline Gindlesberger, and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents and wife, Clyde was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Kenneth, and Weldon Gindlesberger and two sisters, Florence Deemer and Donna Norris.In keeping with Clyde’s wishes there will be no public services. A private graveside service in which the couple will be buried together will take place in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Millersburg at a later date. Cremation care is being handled through Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover.The family requests memorial contributions in Clyde’s name to be directed to the Holmes County Humane Society, PO Box 442, Millersburg, OH 44654.
