Clay Lewis Smith Sr., 72, of Newcomerstown, died Monday, April 8, 2013 in Coshocton Memorial Hospital following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Clarence George and Erma Grace (Tanner) Smith, Clay was born August 14, 1940 at Frazeysburg, Ohio.
He graduated from Port Washington High School and was a veteran of the United States Army.
Clay worked as a truck driver prior to his retirement; a career in which he found great joy. He enjoyed being outdoors and especially driving through the countryside while enjoying the beauty of his surroundings. Most importantly, Clay cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Mona Jean (Elliott) Smith whom he married on August 20, 1961; his children, Catherine C. (Raymond) Meek ofCoshocton, Constance A. (James) Nicolozakes of Cambridge, Clay L. Smith Jr. of Newcomerstown and Jessica R. (Scott) Stowers of Newcomerstown; his grandchildren, Aaron L. Taylor of Virginia, Brittany and Courtney Meek both of Coshocton, Hannah E. Chaney and Elena C. and Demi C. Nicolozakes both of Cambridge, Travis L. Smith of Fresno and Kezdynn M., Koehlar B. Kahnnor R. and Krandon J. Stowers all of Newcomerstown; three great grandchildren, Jordan P. Murray, Devon R. Taylor and Emma L. Hepner; a brother, Clyde Smith; three sisters, Carolyn McCoy, Thelma Herron and Dina Smith and many nieces and nephews.
Clay was preceded in death his parents and a sister, Myrtle Dowdle.
In keeping with Clay’s wishes cremation will take place through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
