Clarence R. ” Clem” Krieger, age 87, of New Philadelphia, passed away early Wednesday morning, October 27, 2010, in his residence at Park Village Assisted Living of Dover. Born at Fulton County, Ohio on August 14, 1923, he was a son of the late Perry and Edith Griesinger Krieger. Best known as “Clem” to his family and friends, he graduated from Fulton County Local Schools at Swanton, Ohio, and continued his formal education at the University of Toledo where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering.For 35 years, Clem worked for the District 11 offices at the Ohio Department of Transportation at New Philadelphia.Once retired, Clem enjoyed refinishing furniture and through the years had completed nearly fifteen hundred pieces. He took great pleasure in helping others in any way he could, which included spending countless winter hours snow blowing the neighborhood sidewalks. He had a wonderful knack for making others laugh at difficult moments and showed his affection for and pride in his family as often as the opportunity presented itself.For many years of his life, during the summer months, Clem could be found on the ball fields. It did not matter if he was playing for the New Philadelphia Merchants or the Tuscarawas County Lone Oak Softball teams, coaching little league baseball or standing behind the plate as an umpire, Clem was in his true element. Additionally, Clem was a long-time member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia. Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, the former L. Arlene Cooper whom he married on December 22, 1950, five children, Craig R. (Lucy) Krieger of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Mark (Gayle) Krieger of Delaware, Ohio, Carole (Michael Parker) Krieger of Chesapeake, Virginia, Michele (Mike) Hubble and Kevin (Kendra) Krieger of New Philadelphia. Eight grandchildren, Amanda Feutz, Darcy Krieger, Rachel Krieger, Ricky Krieger, Scotty Krieger, Claire Krieger, Michelle (Graham) Weber and Ben (Britney) Hubble complete the family.In addition to his parents, Clem was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Krieger.Friends are invited to call Friday, October 29, from 4 to 7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Stephen Patrick will lead a funeral service celebrating Clem’s life on Saturday morning at 10:30 in Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia. Burial at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover will follow. Following the committal service the family will return to the church’s social hall where a meal and fellowship will be shared.Memorial contributions may be directed to Tuscarawas County Friends of the Homeless, P.O.
