Clarence Elmer Basiletti, of Dover, passed away in the Community Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia one day shy of his 93rd birthday, on October 30, 2018.
Born in New Philadelphia on October 31, 1925, he was the son of the late Massimo and Bertha (Welz) Basiletti.
On April 15, 1950, Clarence married the love of his life, the former Maxine Louise Kopp, who preceded him in passing on June 3, 2016.
Clarence honorably served his country in the United States Army Air Corps and was a recipient of the Victory Medal. Following his time in the military, Clarence worked in the coal mines and then as an operating engineer with Beaver Excavating of Canton.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Dover, as well as the Ohio Operating Engineers and the United Mine Workers of America.
Clarence’s favorite pastimes included playing cards, enjoying time with his family and following his passion for fishing.
Clarence will be missed by his children, Melanie (Marvin) Byers of New Philadelphia, Marge (Ron) Onslow of Stone Creek, Brian (Cyndi) Basiletti of New Philadelphia, and Brent (Michele) Basiletti of Tippecanoe; his grandchildren, Carl (Amy) Sommers III, Jason (Jenn) Sommers, Monica (Sam) Ulmer, Adam Byers, Alan (Kim) Byers, Andy (Beth) Byers, Shannon (Glen) Karrenbauer, Justin Onslow, Matthew (Brittany) Onslow, Andrew (Kayla) Onslow, Chuck Slagle, Kasey and Starlyn Basiletti, and Rocco Basiletti; as well as his great-grandchildren, Slayde, Zayne, McKenzie, Brandon, Michaela, Tyler, Tanner, Morganne, AJ, Benjamin, and Colin. Also surviving are his siblings, Romona Weber, Emmett Basiletti and Lester Basiletti; and brother-in-law, Ward Hicks.
In addition to his parents and wife, Clarence was preceded in death by his son, Bruce Basiletti; great-granddaughter, Marissa Ulmer; and 13 brothers and sisters.
The family will greet guests on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 5 to 7 pm in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover with a Vigil service taking place at 7 PM, celebrated by his son-in-law, Deacon Ron Onslow. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Fr. Jimmy Hatfield on Friday, November 2, 2018 beginning at 11 AM at St. Joseph Church in Dover. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in New Philadelphia. Friends are invited back to the St. Joseph Family Life Center to share in a meal following the burial.
