Clarence “Bacon” Morgan

Clarence Harold “Bacon” Morgan, 84, of Barnhill, died Monday, September 15, 2014 in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.

A son of the late James F. and Erma L. (Reymond) Morgan, Bacon was born November 22, 1929 at Barnhill, Ohio.

Bacon was a 1949 graduate of Midvale High School. He was a longtime employee of Midvale & Peabody Coal under the United Mine Workers of America. He was a member of #1304 UMWA Local for more than 60 years.

He was a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1951 to 1953. During his time in the Army, he served in the Korean War with the 3rd Infantry Division on the front line. Bacon was extremely proud of his service to his country and was an active member of the following organizations: the Midvale V.F.W., the Dover American Legion, the D.A.V. in Cincinnati, the Combat Infantryman’s Association, Korean War Veterans Association, Inc. the 3rd Infantry Division Association, the 7th Infantry Regiment Association, the Army-Navy Union, USA, Inc., the Dennison Eagles and the Uhrichsville Moose Lodges, Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association and the Bolivar Army-Navy Garrison.

In his spare time, Bacon also enjoyed working in his garden and mowing grass.

He is survived by his wife, Helen (Bridges) Morgan whom he married on June 6, 1982; his daughters, Peggy (Tom) Smith of Dover and Jonna (David) Harper of Sherrodsville; his son, Clarence H. “Bakie” (Shawn) Morgan II of Barnhill; a step son, Terry (Jenny) Jackson of Uhrichsville; step daughters, Lynn (Craig) Luckeroth of Wisconsin, Diane (John) Meese of Dover, Linda (Abe) Marner of Sugarcreek and Beverly Conley of New Philadelphia; a step son-in-law, John Stephens of New Philadelphia; a brother, James (Nancy) Morgan of Barnhill; a sister, Betty Smith of Dover; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; 25 step grandchildren, 37 step great grandchildren and eight step great-great grandchildren.

Bacon was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steve H. Morgan; a step daughter, Sue Stephens; a step son, Jerry Jackson; one granddaughter; two grandsons; one great granddaughter and one great grandson.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Bacon’s life will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Kenny Doane officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in East Avenue at New Philadelphia.
