Charles Paul “Chuck” Cardani of Dennison passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital.
Born on April 5, 1948, in Dover, to the late Charles and Doris Schoelles Cardani, Chuck grew up in New Philadelphia and was a 1966 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. Shortly after, he was drafted into the United States Army and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. A proud veteran, Chuck carried his love for his country throughout his life.
After returning home, Chuck worked various jobs before retiring as a custodian for New Philadelphia City Schools, where he was beloved by both coworkers and students. Though his towering presence and tattooed exterior might have seemed intimidating at first, those who knew him best will remember him as a gentle giant—a “big teddy bear” with a heart of gold. Above all, Chuck cherished his family and his close friends and his love for them was immeasurable.
He is survived by his loving wife, Debra Cardani; his three children, Paul Cardani (Amy Septer), David (Kris) Cardani, and Camille (Josh) Brader; his stepson Doug Renicker; his sister Jeannie Stringer; his nephew, Phillip (Wendy) Stringer; and his eight beloved grandchildren, Carlie Cardani, Grace Cardani, Emilee Cardani, Zoe Cardani, Bella Brader, Sara Cardani, Joey Brader, and Rocco Brader. He was also excited to meet his first great-granddaughter this June. Nothing made him prouder than being their “Papa”.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Rudy Stringer.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be led by Pastor Brian Flood on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 2 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia, where members of the Carl C. Stoller Post 1445 of the New Philadelphia VFW will perform military honors following the service.
Chuck’s presence, kindness, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
