Chris A. Mason, age 50, of Baltic and formerly of New Philadelphia died early Wednesday morning, July 9, 2008, in Regency Hospital at Columbus, Ohio following a brief illness.A son of the late Jack J. and Grace A. (Steiner) Mason, Chris was born in Union Hospital at Dover on August 11, 1957.Chris was a graduate of New Philadelphia and later enlisted with the United States Marine Corps.While serving his country Chris was awarded specialties as a Rifleman and Water Safety Survival Instructor.Chris was a welder by trade and for a number of years worked for Alsco at Sugarcreek.He especially enjoyed sharing stories, drawings and reflections of his own thoughts that he would journal on a regular basis with those who would often visit.Additionally, Chris loved to travel and would often take off to destinations unknown on his motorcycle or car just for the sake of sightseeing.Chris will be sadly missed by his sister; Diane Mason and her companion Donovan McLeod and by a brother Jack (Susan) Mason all of New Philadelphia.Four nieces, Jennifer Brady, Stephanie Miller, Tiffanie (William) Parry, and Jacquelyn (Dr. Matthew) Koch; and a nephew, Michael Miller also survive.Chris was close to his cousins, Barbara (George) Schwartz, Sandy Greenwalt, Patty Peacock and Jim (Mary) Elco as well as a special friend, Victoria Whitman.In keeping with his wishes there will be no public visitation or services. Cremation care will take place through the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
