Chester Richard “Pat” Patterson, 88, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at his home.A son of the late Chester and Nellie (Nichols) Patterson, Pat was born October 13, 1917 at Cambridge, Ohio.He was employed at the Dover Dam from 1936 to 1939 and then went to work with the Invincible Vacuum Cleaner Company in Dover. Pat also was an independent carpenter.Pat loved fishing and hunting with his family and friends and he spent many summers in Gowganda, Ontario, Canada. He always had a large garden and built his own home as well as the homes of many others. And because Pat was quite a handyman, he was always on call for repairs and materials for neighbors and friends.He was a Past President of the New Philadelphia and the Uhrichsville Eagles Lodges. He had served as the District Chairman and State Chairman for many different Eagles charities. Pat also was a member of the Warwick Lions Club where he served as Zone 4 Chairman and Past President. He was then honored by the Lions Club by receiving the Distinguished Service Award and the Knight for Sight Award. Pat was a life member of the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge where he held the position of Tyler for many years. He was recognized by the Elks Lodge by receiving the Outstanding Service Award as well as the Elk of the Year Award. Pat was also a social member of the Tuscarawas V.F.W. and the Otterbein United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia.He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne (Hewitt) Patterson, whom he married on May 24, 1941; daughter, Mary Ann (Larry) Howell; sons, Robert L. (Barbara) Patterson, Thomas E. (Karen) Patterson, Jerry D. Patterson and William (Diana) Patterson; grandchildren, Robert L. Patterson Jr, Richard M. (Lori) Patterson, Daniel J. Patterson, Timothy E. Howell, Sarah E. Howell, Shawn M. Patterson, Chris Patterson, Mandy (Jamie) Mitchell, Jeff (Shelley) Patterson and Tracy Patterson; 13 great grandchildren and 3 ½ great-great grandchildren.Pat was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Charles; brother, Robert and sister, Judy Arnold.Family and friends may call in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia on Friday, April 14, 2006 from 4 to 8 p.m. with the Uhrichsville Eagles holding services at 3:45 p.m. and the New Philadelphia Elks holding services at 7:45 p.m. A service honoring Pat’s life will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2006 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel at 1 p.m. with Rev. Kelly Brown officiating. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
