Chester L. Harmon, 89, of Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014 in Union Hospital at Dover.
A son of the late Ernest J. and Mary M. (Burrier) Harmon, Chester was born January 22, 1925 at Germano, Ohio.
After graduating from high school, Chester honorably served his country in the United States Army, where he was stationed in France, Belgium, and Normandy.
On July 17, 1948, he married the former Almeda M. Bailey who preceded him in passing in 2007.
Chester was a sales representative for Marsh Chalkboard Company for 25 years. Prior to that employment, Chester drove buses for Cardani Bus and the New Philadelphia School system. In retirement, he worked for Buckeye Security and always enjoyed his life membership with the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445.
Chester is survived by one daughter, Marsha K. Harmon of New Philadelphia; one son, James A. Harmon of Columbus, Ohio; his brother, Clifford (Pat) Harmon of Gnadenhutten; two sisters-in-law, Nedra Bailey and Shirley B. Tullis of Jewett, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Chester’s wishes, there will be no calling hours and a private family graveside service will be held in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Cremation will be cared for through Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory.
