Charlotte A. Egler, age 91, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully late Thursday morning, February 21, 2008, in Union Hospital at Dover. Born at Uhrichsville, April 14, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Meart Alvin Tweed and Kate Margaret Sproul Tweed, a descendent of Michael Uhrich, the founder of Uhrichsville. Charlotte grew up in Uhrichsville during the roaring ’20’s attending church at the Presbyterian Church, ultimately graduating from Uhrichsville High School with the class of 1934. Following graduation, she worked at the former Twin City Wholesale House. During World War II, Charlotte was one of nearly four thousand volunteers to serve troops traveling across the country by train, transforming the Dennison Depot Canteen into what many servicemen recall as Dreamsville, USA. Following the war, Charlotte married Kermit Jennings Egler, whom she wrote to daily during his military tour of duty. The couple wed June 18, 1947 in the Presbyterian Church at Uhrichsville, and observed their fifty-first wedding anniversary prior to his death in October, 1998. Active in the community, Charlotte was a member of AARP Chapter #2495, the Jerusalem Church, including the Rebecca Circle, the ladies fellowship group known as the Jerusalem Friends as well as other various committees. Charlotte loved to cook and will be remembered for the quality time she spent with her family. She actively followed the athletic and pursuits of her daughter, son and granddaughter. Her family includes a daughter, Jane Egler of New Philadelphia, and son, James (wife Linda) Egler of Gnadenhutten; a granddaughter Kerry Egler-Whytsell and husband Michael of New Philadelphia.
