Charles Wayne Atkins

Charles Wayne Atkins, age 77, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully on Sunday, September 16, 2012 following a period of declining health.

A son of the late Charles and Anna (Dickey) Atkins, Chuck, as he was known to family and friends, was born at Beach City, Ohio on January 19, 1935.

On December 14, 1963, at Bolivar, Ohio, Chuck married the love of his life, the former Dianne Miller. For 30 years, he was employed by Norfolk & Southern Railroad where he worked as a Second Class Carpenter.

In his spare time, Chuck enjoyed fishing and taking trips to the zoo and Sea World with his family. He also enjoyed sharing time with them as they played various board games.

In addition to his wife, Chuck is survived by his children, Tammy Atkins, Wayne (Sandy) Atkins; grandchildren, Shane Johnson and Wayne Atkins II all of New Philadelphia; a sister, Edna Robinson of Massillon, Ohio and a brother, Arthur Atkins of Bowerston, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Terri Atkins; an infant sister, Stella Atkins, and a brother, Orville Atkins.

A Memorial Service celebrating Chuck’s life will be led by Pastor Bill Johnson, in God’s Family Church, 454 Front Street, Dover, Ohio 44622 on Sunday, September 23, 2012, at 2:00 PM with the family receiving guests one hour prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 PM.
