Charles W. “Chuck” Morgan, 77, of New Philadelphia, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday evening, March 29, 2006, at his residence surrounded by his family.A son of the late Charles Ellis and Alice Caroline Christenson Morgan, Charles was born April 8, 1928, in Ludlow, Pa.He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1946 and served on the U.S.S. Dayton, visiting many different ports of call. He was proud of his military service, was a member of the American Legion and was a very patriotic citizen.Charles retired from GTE Telephone in 1990, where he had worked in many capacities over the years. Following his wife, Josephine’s death in 1967, he raised his young family with the help of his late mother-in-law, Esther Books Ridgway.He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and bowling, was an avid woodworker, a member of the Pioneer Telephone Association, the Communication Workers of America, several bowling leagues and the Zoar Gun Club. Charles is survived by his daughters, Jenny (Mark) Vaughan, of New Philadelphia, Carole (Mark) Williams, of Newcomerstown, and Pamela (Allan) Freeman, of New Philadelphia; a son, Eugene E. Morgan, of New Philadelphia; granddaughters, Renee ( Geoff) DeMattio, of Dover and Hope Vaughan, of New Philadelphia, a sister, Marjorie Kiefer, of Marietta, O.; nieces and nephews; and his beloved West Highland Terrior, Little Miss Snowflake.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Josephine Marie Ridgway Morgan; brothers, James and Burton; and sisters, Ruth McIntyre, Allyne Payne and Eileen Morgan.Visitation will be held Sunday, April 2, 2006, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Stephen T. Sparling, of the Christ United Methodist Church, in Newcomerstown officiating. Burial will be at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens in Dover.
