Charles W Gross

Charles W. Gross, age 94, of Dover passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord, Thursday, August 15, 2013 in Union Hospital.

A son of the late Harley and Mabel (Fenton) Gross, Charles was born on October 15, 1918 at Newcomerstown.

Charles was a World War II veteran who proudly served in the United States Army from 1941 – 1945. While stationed in France, he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He had a passion for restoring cars and upon returning home, Charles owned and operated Gross Body Shop at Newcomerstown. He later worked for Weinsz Motors at Dover and finished his career at Ferris Chevrolet. Additionally, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, bird watching and flowers.

Charles was a member of the College Street Methodist Church at Newcomerstown in his early years and later joined the First Church of the Nazarene at New Philadelphia. In recent years, he attended Dover Foursquare Gospel Church and throughout his lifetime was devoted to his Lord and his family.

He is survived by three sons, David (Linda) Gross of Bowling Green, Richard (Rose Ann) Gross of Ashland, and Steven Gross of Dover; two daughters, Deborah (Tom) Carr of Dover, and Linda (Jim) Adams of New Philadelphia; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a sister Thelma Long of Gnadenhutten.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Wilma (Stocker) Gross whom he married on June 11, 1942; two brothers, Chester and Earl Gross and a sister, Gean Marlatt.

The family will greet guests one hour prior to services on Sunday, August 18, 2013, from 2:00 – 3:00 PM in the Foursquare Gospel Church, 302 E Slingluff Avenue, Dover. Pastor David Wing will lead a service celebrating Charles’ life on Sunday at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens where members of the New Philadelphia VFW will render military honors. Following services, all are invited to join the family for a time of food and fellowship in the church’s Family Life Center.

The family requests memorial contributions in Charles’ name be directed to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
