CHARLES R. “CHIP” McCAHILL, 60, of New Philadelphia, died early Thursday evening, September 12, 2002 at Aultman Hospital in Canton. Chip was born January 26, 1942 at his family’s home in Wainwright, a son of the late Dennis and Mary Reichman McCahill. He graduated in 1960 from Tuscarawas High School where he played sports. From 1964 to 1966 Chip served honorably with the U. S. Army Military Police in Germany. Following his military service, he worked at Greer Steel in Dover for 40 years. Chip enjoyed outdoor activities, especially hunting and fishing with his sons Chad and Kevin, and raising animals with his daughter Tammie. In 1992 Chip was inducted into the Tuscarawas County Oldtimers’ Baseball Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Tuscarawas VFW. Chip is survived by his wife, the former Brenda Kay Lynn, whom he married May 9, 1970 at St. Joseph Church in Dover; two sons, Chad (Becki) McCahill and Kevin McCahill; a daughter, Tammie McCahill; six sisters, Mary Lou Ridgway, Janice (Denny) Urfer, Ann (Bob) Craig, Shirley Sinkovich, Barb (Roy) Schilling and Karen (Dave) Green; three brothers, Ronald (Marti) McCahill, Dennis (Linda) McCahill and Harold (Mary) McCahill; mother-in-law, Jean Walker and father-in-law, Delbert (Doris) Lynn; several nieces and nephews, and his dog, “Jake”. Calling hours will be Sunday, September 15, 2002 from 1:00 to 3:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia. The funeral will be in the funeral home on Monday morning, September 16, 2002 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Michael R. Foran officiating. Burial will follow at Dover Burial Park with military rites presented by the Tuscarawas VFW Post. Following the committal the family will host a reception at the Tuscora Park Pavilion.
