Charles R. Heid, 77, of New Philadelphia died on April 10, 2018, surrounded by family.
Charley was born in Strasburg on Feb. 5, 1941 to the late John and Mildred (Minnig) Heid.
He was a 1959 graduate of St. Joseph High School and attended Kent State University. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force where he obtained the rank of Airman First Class and was a computer programmer, a career that served him well the remainder of his professional life. He was an active member of the New Philadelphia VFW, Tusc. County 40 & 8, Dover Eagles and the Bolivar American Legion. Charley was an avid fisherman and loved to be on the lake.
On Aug. 1, 1962, he married his high school sweetheart Lynda L. Bigler and they enjoyed 53 years of marriage until her sudden passing in 2016.
Charley is survived by 2 sons, Greg & Shawanna (Musick) Heid of Gnadenhutten, Jeff & Sherry (Allen) Heid of Robbinsville, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Jacob and Nathan of North Canton, Felicia and Kaitlin of Gnadenhutten, Brannon and Kaeden of Robbinsville, North Carolina and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two siblings, Barbara Gray of Gainsville, Florida and Bill Heid of Dover.
As per his wishes there will be no calling hours. A holy Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Jeff Coning on Friday, April 13, 2018, at 1 PM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial, with military rites conducted by the Bolivar American Legion will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following the committal, a lunch will be served at St. Ambrose Hall, adjacent to the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be directed to Sacred Heart Church, 139 Third Street NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663 or Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
